The cankers only increase for those who are arrogant and heedless, who leave undone what should be done and do what should not be done. The cankers cease for those mindful and clearly comprehending ones who always earnestly practice mindfulness of the body, who do not resort to what should not be done, and steadfastly pursue what should be done. Respectable and Honorable Ones
By Admin at 7:06 AM
Buddha's Quotes, Buddha's Teachings
Who is wise and virtuous,
Gentle and keen-witted,
Humble and amenable,
Such a one to honor may attain.
Who is energetic and not indolent,
In misfortune unshaken,
Flawless in manner and intelligent,
Such a one to honor may attain.
Who is hospitable and friendly,
Liberal and unselfish,
A guide, an instructor, a leader,
Such a one to honor may attain.
Generosity, sweet speech,
Helpfulness to others,
Impartiality to all,
As the case demands.
These four winning ways make the world go round,
As the linchpin in a moving car.
If these in the world exist not,
Neither mother nor father will receive,
Respect and honor from their children.

Buddha Saying: 18/10/2011
By Admin at 1:08 PM
Buddha's Quotes
Good men and bad men differ radically. Bad men never appreciate kindness shown them, but wise men appreciate and are grateful. Wise men try to express their appreciation and gratitude by some return of kindness, not only to their benefactor, but to everyone else. - Buddha

Benefit Your Mind and It Should Benefit You
By Admin at 2:57 PM
Buddha's Quotes
You can develop, cultivate, and protect your mind as you go for great benefits to come, says Buddha. You risk danger, suffering, and possibly harm if you don't. And if you go about in unproductive ways, or dangerous and harmful ways, you could be in for sufferings too. Therefore, for development work the help of a guru in the Self is indispensable after the guru takes charge out of compassion [Geta 32, 44]. Gracious gurus are not dispensed with in some of the major traditions of Buddhism either.
Now, what is given below in the form of capsules are extracts of presumably basic Buddhist teachings. My modifications are shown by the mark #. - TK
When developed and cultivated, the mind leads to great benefit and happiness; when undeveloped and uncultivated, it brings about stress, suffering, great harm. [Anguttara Nikaya 1.27-30]

The two Nibbana-elements
By Admin at 4:12 PM
Buddha's Quotes
These two Nibbana-elements were made known
By the Seeing One, stable and unattached:
One is the element seen here and now
With residue, but with the cord of being destroyed;
...The other, having no residue for the future,
Is that wherein all modes of being utterly cease.
Having understood the unconditioned state,
Released in mind with the cord of being destroyed,
They have attained to the Dhamma-essence.
Delighting in the destruction (of craving),
Those stable ones have abandoned all being.
[Iti 2.17; Iti 38]

All processes are impermanent
By Admin at 2:40 PM
Buddha's Quotes
All processes are impermanent. When one sees this with understanding, then one is disillusioned with the things of suffering. This is the Path of Purification.[Dhp.277] - The Buddha
The recollection of peace
By Admin at 2:39 PM
Buddha's Quotes
There is one thing which, if practiced and developed conduces to letting go, giving up, stilling, calming, higher knowledge, awakening and to Nirvana. And what is that one thing? It is the recollection of peace. -Anguttara Nikaya I.29

A person with good eyes
By Admin at 1:26 AM
Buddha's Quotes
A person with good eyes, encountering a treacherous, uneven place, would try hard to avoid it. A wise person, in the world of life, should avoid evil deeds. [Ud 5.3]
-The Buddha
This holy life is lived for the abandoning of becoming
By Admin at 1:25 AM
Buddha's Quotes
This world is burning.
Afflicted by contact,
it calls disease a "self,"
for by whatever means it construes [anything],
...that becomes otherwise from that.
Becoming otherwise,
the world is
held by becoming
afflicted by becoming
and yet delights
in that very becoming.
Where there's delight,
there is fear.
What one fears
is stressful.
This holy life is lived
for the abandoning of becoming.
[Ud 3.10 PTS: Ud 32 ]
Bound round with delusion
By Admin at 1:23 AM
Buddha's Quotes
Bound round with delusion, the world only appears to be competent. Bound with acquisitions, foolish, surrounded by darkness, it seems eternal, but for one who sees, there is nothing. [Ud 7.10 PTS: Ud 79]

True happiness
By Admin at 8:31 PM
Buddha's Quotes
To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him. -The Buddha
Feeling of the Dislike for Evil
By Admin at 8:28 PM
Buddha's Quotes
When one has the feeling of dislike for evil, when one feels tranquil, one finds pleasure in listening to good teachings; when one has these feelings and appreciates them, one is free of fear. -The Buddha
Having Done What should Not be Done
By Admin at 8:22 PM
Buddha's Quotes
One whose heart is overwhelmed by unrestrained covetousness will do what he should not do and neglect what he ought to do. And through that, his good name and his happiness will come to ruin.[AN 4:61] - The Buddha

One should blame neither oneself nor others
By Admin at 7:32 PM
Buddha's Quotes
When in contact with pleasure or pain in village or forest, one should blame neither oneself nor others. Contacts make contact dependent on a sense of acquisition. Where there's no sense of acquisition, contacts would make contact with what? [Ud 2.4] - The Buddha
