Looking for peace is like looking for a turtle with a moustache. You won't be able to find it. But when your hearty is read, it will come looking for you. - Ajahn Chah

Read Yourself
By Admin at 8:40 PM
Venerable Ajahn Chah Quotes
Read yourself, not books. Truth isn't outside, that's only memory, not wisdom. Memory without wisdom is like an empty thermos bottle - if you don't fill it, it's useless. -Ajahn Chah

See it
By Admin at 3:22 AM
Venerable Ajahn Chah Quotes
Just know what is happening in your mind - not happy or sad about it, not attached. If you suffer see it, know it, and be empty. It's like a letter - you have to open it before you can know what's in it. -Ajahn Chah
The ladle is in the soup pot
By Admin at 3:19 AM
Venerable Ajahn Chah Quotes
"If you listen to the Dhamma teachings but don't practice you're like a ladle in a soup pot. The ladle is in the soup pot every day, but it doesn't know the taste of the soup. You must reflect and meditate."
When suffering arises, where does it arise from?
By Admin at 3:14 AM
Venerable Ajahn Chah Quotes
Whenever we feel that we are definitely right, so much so that we refuse to open up to anything or anybody else, right there we are wrong. It becomes wrong view. When suffering arises, where does it arise from? The cause is wrong view, the fruit of that being suffering. If it was right view it wouldn't cause suffering.

Hurtful actions and reprisals are different
By Admin at 1:28 AM
Venerable Ajahn Chah Quotes
Hurtful actions and reprisals are different but closely related. Actions once done are finished with, there's no need to answer with revenge and hostility. This is called "action" (kamma). "Reprisal" (vera) means to continue that action further with thoughts of "you did it to me so I'm going to get you back." There's n...o end to this. It brings about the continual seeking of revenge, and so hatred is never abandoned. As long as we behave like this the chain remains unbroken, there's no end to it. No matter where we go, the feuding continues. -Ajahn Chah
Give up all forms of evil and cultivate virtue
By Admin at 1:27 AM
Venerable Ajahn Chah Quotes
The Buddha taught us to give up all forms of evil and cultivate virtue. This is the right path. Teaching in this way is like the Buddha picking us up and placing us at the beginning of the path. Having reached the path, whether we walk along it or not is up to us. The Buddha's job is finished right there. He shows the ...way, that which is right and that which is not right. This much is enough, the rest is up to us.

Venerable Ajahn Chah Quotes
This world "Liberation" is itself just a convention, but it refers to that beyond conventions. Having achieved freedom, having reached liberation, we still have to use convention in order to refer to it as liberation. If we didn't have convention we couldn't communicate, so it does have its use. -Venerable Ajahn Chah

Cure disease of the mind
By Admin at 8:23 PM
Venerable Ajahn Chah Quotes
Doctors prescribe medicine to eliminate disease from the body. The
Teachings of the Buddha are prescribed to cure disease of the mind, to
bring it back to its natural healthy state. So the Buddha can be
considered to be a doctor who prescribes cures for the ills of the mind.
He is, in fact, the greatest doctor in the world.

Steady practice is keeping mindful...
By Admin at 7:12 PM
Venerable Ajahn Chah Quotes
"Don’t think that only sitting with the eyes closed is practice. If you do think this way, then quickly change your thinking. Steady practice is keeping mindful in every posture, whether sitting, walking, standing or lying down. When coming out of sitting, don’t think that you’re coming out of meditation, but that you ...are only changing postures. If you reflect in this way, you will have peace. Wherever you are, you will have this attitude of practice with you constantly. You will have a steady awareness within yourself." -Venerable Ajahn Chah

Venerable Ajahn Chah Quotes
"In its natural state, the mind is the same - in it, there exists no loving or hating, nor does it seek to blame other people. It is independent, existing in a state of purity that is truly clear, radiant and untarnished. In its pure state, the mind is peaceful, without happiness or suffering - indeed, not experiencing... any vedana (feeling) at all. This is the true state of the mind." -Venerable Ajahn Chah

Venerable Ajahn Chah Quotes
It is only natural that when we put on dirty clothes and our bodies are dirty, that out minds too will feel uncomfortable and depressed. However, if we keep our bodies clean and wear clean, neat clothes, it makes our minds light and cheerful. So too, when morality is not kept, our bodily actions and speech are dirty, a...nd this is a cause for making the mind unhappy, distressed and heavy. We are separated from right practice and this prevents us from penetrating in the essence of the Dhamma in our minds. The wholesome bodily actions and speech themselves depend on mind, properly trained, since mind orders body and speech. Therefore, we must continue practice by training our minds. ~Phra Bodhinyana Thera (Ajanh Chah)

Venerable Ajahn Chah Quotes
Do not try to become anything. Do not make yourself into anything. Do not be a meditator. Do not become enlightened. When you sit, let it be. Grasp at nothing. Resist nothing.
